The total solar eclipse takes place on Monday, April 8th around 1:30pm. Many people are expected to come to Burnet because of the beauty of the Hill Country. The city of Burnet is a small town of about 7,000 people. Traffic will be heavy on the weekend leading up to the eclipse through about the Tuesday after the eclipse. Neither the City of Burnet or the Chamber of Commerce has an event planned. For those able to stay in the area a little longer, the Burnet Chamber of Commerce will be holding the town’s annual Burnet Bluebonnet Festival on April 12-14th. There will be live music, parades, car show, demolition derby, weenie dog races, and much more!
Planning to visit for the eclipse?
Be aware that many roads are narrow, curvy, and often include wildlife.
Cell service will likely not work the day of the eclipse.
Bring cash. It’s possible that credit card machines will not work the day of the eclipse.
Fuel up ahead of time. It’s possible that gas stations will run out of gas before everyone gets a chance to fuel up to leave.
Be patient and expect heavy traffic! Burnet roads were designed for the volume of traffic expected.
If you leave on Tuesday or Wednesday (or after Bluebonnet Festival), you’ll spend considerably less time stuck in traffic.
