SUMMARY:Highland Lakes Quilt Guild (HLQG) welcomes in the new year with an exciting line-up of new programs.
DESCRIPTION:Highland Lakes Quilt Guild (HLQG) welcomes in the new year with an attractive line-up of new programs featuring topics on green quilting\, combining paint and textiles\, thread art\, constructing art quilts\, sculpting fabric vessels\, and working with silk. We are especially pleased to introduce topics on green quilting which include learning tips and techniques on recycling garments and reclaiming fabric for new projects. HLQG member Novelleen Parker recently created a lovely accent pillow fashioned from a few of her husband’s vintage collection of 100 silk suit ties which range in age from 20 to 40 years. The finished pillow now invokes many happy memories for the Parkers. If you are interested in learning about another green quilting story\, please plan to join us January 17\, for the guild’s Organizational Business Meeting where HLQG member Kathy Rector will present a short talk\, titled Tie Journey; a story that began with a tie and ended with a lavish silk quilt. Highland Lakes Quilt Guild (HLQG) features monthly membership meetings 9:00 am – Noon\, and most every third Wednesday of the month in the Fellowship Hall at the First Methodist Church of Marble Falls\, 1101 Bluebonnet Dr.

SUMMARY:Highland Lakes Quilt Guild Monthly Membership Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Internationally acclaimed fiber artist\, quilt designer\, lecturer\, author\, and teacher\, Cynthia England will speak at Highland Lakes Quilt Guild (HLQG) September 20th\, First Methodist Church of Marble Falls. England began quilting 50 years ago and has received many awards for her beautiful fiber works\, including Best of Show (three times) at the prestigious International Quilt Festival in Houston\, Texas. Her unique quilting technique known as “Picture Piecing”\, unlike the more historical paper piecing method for sewing fabric pieces together\, requires less time and wasted fabric. \nHer quilts are known for their beautifully detailed imagery of architecture\, landscapes\, portraits and nature. England’s works of art most certainly were inspired by her experiences traveling across the globe lecturing in multiple countries and sharing her special quilting techniques with quilters in: North America\, South Africa\, Taiwan\, Japan\, South Korea\, Germany\, Canada\, Austria\, Spain and Mexico. HLQG is fortunate to introduce Cynthia England to the Hill Country quilters and we hope you will take time to join us for this fabulous presentation. \nHighland Lakes Quilt Guild (HLQG) meets from 9:00 am – Noon\, the third Wednesday of the month in the Fellowship Hall at First United Methodist Church\, 1101 Bluebonnet Dr. in Marble Falls. Members can attend workshops scheduled on the third Thursday of the month. All quilt lovers are welcome to join us for light refreshments\, followed by the monthly membership meeting and program. We are an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to continuing the education and celebration of quilt making combined with many opportunities to support our local charities. HLQG workshops are discounted for our members; pre-registration is necessary\, and space is limited. We welcome new applications for membership. Learn more about our organization at: www.HLQG.org\, or contact us by email HLQGuild@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Highland Lakes Quilt Guild Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Highland Lakes Quilt Guild presents a trunk show by Gail Hurn\, with many of her splendid quilts from past to present.\nGail Hurn\, a longtime member of Highland Lakes Quilt Guild (HLQG) will show her extensive collection of fine quilts and wall hangings and share her personal quilt journey February 15\, at the First Methodist Church\, 1101 Bluebonnet Dr\, Marble Falls\, TX. Members of the HLQG meet the third Wednesday of each month\, 9AM-noon. Gail learned to sew at the age 10\, when her mother sent her to Singer Sewing School\, but it wasn’t until years later that she made her first bed quilt. Gail was born in Texas and earned a degree in business which took her into teaching\, Instruction Technology\, to junior college students and eventually into teaching the teacher at San Antonio ISD. While living in Philadelphia in the mid 70’s Gail continued her interest in quilting and soon discovered the beauty of handmade Amish quilts. Gail started a cottage business commissioning quilts for her customers. Drawing on her academic background\, combined with her love for quilts\, Gail was soon selling 100’s of quilts. Gail used computer software to design patterns and selecting colors\, sometimes modifying traditional blocks to suit her customer’s wishes. Gail often employed Amish and Mennonite women to make her quilts.\nPlease join us at February’s meeting\, when Gail speaks about her journey with quilts and shares her life’s lessons. Visitors are welcome and new members are highly sought-after. For more information: www.hlqg.org or email us at hlqguild@gmail.com. \nPhoto 1: Quilt title: Crystallis made by old Order Amish ladies in Indiana
